Reason For Purpose
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose..” – Romans 8:28
Reason For A Story
The Candle finds purpose.
There was a candle that stood in a room filled with other candles, most of them much larger and much more awesome than he was. Some were ornate and some were rather simple, like him. Some were white, some were brown, some were yellow, and some were green. He had no idea why he was there, and the other candles made him feel rather small and insignificant.
When the sun went down and the room began to get dark, he noticed a large man walking toward him with a ball of fire on a stick. He suddenly realized that the man was going to set him on fire. "No, no!" he cried, "Aaaaagghhh! Don’t burn me, please!" But he knew that he could not be heard and prepared for the pain that would surely follow.
To his surprise, the room filled with light. He wondered where it came from since the man had extinguished his fire stick. To his delight, he realized that the light came from himself.
Then the man struck another fire stick and, one by one, lit the other candles in the room. Each one gave out the same light that he did.
During the next few hours, he noticed that, slowly, his wax began to flow. He became aware that he would soon die. With this realization came a sense of why he had been created. "Perhaps my purpose on earth is to give out light until I die," he mused. And that’s exactly what he did.
Reason For Truth
"In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it." John 1:4-5
Jesus came as the Light of the world, full of mercy, truth, and grace. His life within a believer is so completely transforming that His light chases away darkness and shadows.
God created you and I to produce light in a dark world. Our purpose on this earth is to let our lights shine so that God may be glorified. As Paul rightly states, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them (Eph. 2:10).” When we begin to realize our purpose in life is to give praise and honor to God and share that with others, we’re at the very starting point of finding true peace, true contentment, and true purpose for “we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to HIS purpose. - Romans 8:28
